Lloyd Wellington Acoustic - Thicknessing the Sides

Lloyds guitar has Indian Rosewood back and sides, here I'm thicknessing them with my Jack plane to 1.9 mm.  Later I'll be thicknessing the area around the waist to 1.7mm as this is the tightest bend on this particular guitar.  It'll be easier to bend into the correct shape at this thickness.

Im using a toothed blade in my plane, this helps me to avoid tear-out, especially on this piece where the grain is a little erratic.

In this photo you can see my thicknessing calipers, this enables me to measure accurate thicknesses to 0.01mm.

I use my scraper to get a smooth surface on the piece, getting rid of any fine plane marks.  You can see the fine curl of shavings that I get with this tool.

This months current soundtrack is a pleasant prezzie from Santa, Dave Rawlings Machine 'A Friend of a Friend'

I love the tone and aesthetic of his small bodied archtop, which  is an 1935 Epiphone Olympic apparently.   Hmmmm, a project for the future I think......
